“I wonder what’s up there?”

That might be what I’m thinking as I gaze out of my window. This still shot was made during two days’ intensive filming, on location at and around my house, for a short film, working title ISS_Overs. It is being made by Diogenes Films, under the direction of Luka Vukos, and it concerns the solitude of one person during Covid-19 lockdown while the International Space Station hurtles overhead. I’m looking forward to its eventual release…

  1. Looks tremendously interesting. It’s curious how we tend to position solitude in a lenticular place of duality and contrast; not just the dual aspect of everything, no, there’s an extra layer in solitude, a pellicle of sorts. It’s a sentiment that is either tacit or punctuated strongly.
Either way, the project looks brilliant.

    1. If it is anything like the previous project of Luka’s I was involved with, the result will be interesting. There was a basic script, but Luka seemed to be thinking on his feet as he shot, drawing inspiration from what he saw in the house and the neighbourhood. The irony is that the crew was crammed into my small house, and the last thing I felt at any time was solitude. I am the only actor – it’s a single-hander – and I was completely exhausted by the end of the second day. The last thing I had any time to think about duality, contrast…

      1. Haha, I’m very familiar with how extenuating shooting can be, as I used to help around camera-work for a good few shorts and web-projects around Lisbon, before COVID.
Days are incredibly long and juiced for all their pith. Regardless, it should be an interesting result. Hopefully the strenuous and astringent aura of the day bleeds into the some sort of frustrated isolation that embosses the performance, who knows?
